I got out my costume books and started in the wrong century for a Rose of Versailles-inspired commission (see the last project I worked on for Nautilus). It’s really more 1850s than 1750s, though I suppose military styles don’t fluxuate much. In any event, I’m super-excited to have plenty of Victoria and Albert pic spam (see below) and military-through-the-ages enthusiasts to guide me through the unknown territory of epaulet construction and sash-tying.
My shopping list is prepared, right down to tiny brass buttons from Cat’s Paw. I’ll be getting patterns together this weekend and figuring out yardage requirements. Then, hopefully, supplies will be waiting on my doorstep when I return from our trip to see the Paradox of Liberty exhibit in Washington, DC.
Squee!!
Don’t be worried, Aimee. Rose of Versailles is rather anachronistic anyway – as Kieda Riyoko based her outfits on both British and French uniforms of the mid 19th Century anyway.
And as for your Roger Fenton spam, GLEE! He’s one of the best in the early period of the art….
Oh…. I’m so excited. So excited.

Calm down, Yuko. Calm down. Let the lady work…
